Benfica, the lucky Portuguese Cat!

When we recently received an email about a kitten called Benfica from Portugal, we just had to share it with you. Well..., it's always nice to read stories that have a happy-ending!

"My name is David and I'm writing you from Portugal, Lisbon. I´m a subscriber of your ezine and a fan of Vicky for about a year and half. I have a cat called “ Benfica” who is now about 2 years old.

In September 2010 I found Benfica inside a garbage bag in the middle of the road, near to the place where I normally park my car. He was a little kitty, and by some reason someone was trying to kill him in a horrible way… Thankfully I found him and we became friends at first sight.

The first few months he remained homeless because me and my parents were having many doubts about having a cat... the usual doubts such as the costs involved in keeping a pet etc etc. But during those months when he was homeless, I fed him every single day and I played with him every time I left the house to go to work, school etc. Any kind of reason that I had to leave home was a good reason to be with him and play with him.

In January however, I adopted him but suddently noticed something wasn´t ok with him. We took him to the vet and they discovered a big infection in his little lungs…

Thankfully he recovered, although he and we spent a few weeks between despair and happiness... I mean despair when the vets were saying that he wouldn´t make it and happiness when the miracle happened – he survived and now he´s the happiness of our home.

Here are a two photos showing his first days in the street and how he is now! Just notice the difference... From a small skinny cat, to a healthy and strong kitty!"
